Nightsolo's Prologue Walkthrough

Prologue

I recommend skipping the Tutorial, as it's buggy as hell, and I've never been able to complete it.

While being interrogated, acting uncooperative gets you more information. Just don't try to attack Roche, or you'll die.

When you get the option, start from the beginning, with the morning of the battle. When you can, ask Triss everything you can. When you gain control of Geralt, access your inventory to equip anything you may have imported from the previous game. After every conversation with Roche here, you'll be reset to default gear. Head down the hill and talk to the Temerian Recruit: tell him that the job is done for a free reward.

Continue straight ahead to a group of mercenaries who are standing around talking. Newboy, which starts the quest "Melitele's Heart." You have some choices:
A) Be skeptical of the amulet, and take it from him. This also starts the side quest Melitele's Heart. Later, Newboy survives and he'll give you the book About Dragons.
B) Be skeptical of the amulet, but don't take it from him. Later, you'll have to kill him to get the Amulet in order to get the side quest Melitele's Heart.
C) Let him keep the Amulet, and you can loot it from his corpse later to get the side quest Melitele's Heart.

I'm not going to mention looting, unless there's something specific you need to pick up. Just assume you need to hit the search button and loot stuff all the time.

In the next part of camp on the right, destroy the training dummies (10 will grant you a permanent bonus to your EXP rate, and you'll find them throughout the game, unless you have the mod Easier Experienced Attribute). Talk to a guy in a helmet but no shirt to arm-wrestle him. There's an unnamed soldier behind the tents to the arm wrestler's left who will teach you to play Dice.

Follow the quest marker to start conversing with Foltest. When you're asked to aim a ballista, move the camera to the right and down, so that the upper left corner touches the guy with the feather in his cap. You'll know you've done it right when Geralt says "1.5 degrees" and the bolt hits the target. There's really no consequence to missing.

At the top of the tower, let Foltest stop talking, then walk towards the troops to get to the next part.

Re-equip any imported gear. After some conversation, go down the stairs, then left-click (which is your do everything button) to go down the scaffolding. Fight off all the enemies here, and prep the ballista. You'll have to kill more troops between each step.

When the coast is clear, go behind the Ballista and look at the corpse on the collapsed cart to gain the Assassin Ability, which boosts damage from behind. After firing, go up the stairs and click to ascend the scaffolding there, then vault the wall. Follow Foltest and keep killing. Choose whether to kill or save Aryan. Saving him leads to meeting him again later, the castle gets blown up, and you get a bonus to carry weight. Killing him means you'll later meet his mother, and the castle will remain intact. This has a minor effect on dialog in one quest in TW3.

When running from the dragon, if you catch fire, you'll die. Stay behind the NPCs, don't run over burning bodies, and avoid Triss's fire balls. Quen is helpful here.

In town, bear left and choose whether to save two groups of people. Continue until you fight some soldiers and see a cutscene where a wagon blocks your path. Backtrack to the right fork and trigger a brief camera pan & zoom. Get right up against the boards to use Aard on them. Fight a couple of enemy soldiers, then Descend down the well.

Make your way through the sewers and up into a tower. At one point, you'll come to a locked gate. If you look to your right, you'll see a way up. Fight some soldiers in the cemetary, then two more inside. Note the locked gate. Go through the next door, and after killing those soldiers, loot a Key from one of their corpses. Return to the locked gate, open it, then use the "winch" to let Foltest in.

Follow the King until the dragon attack. Hold the move down key. Follow Foltest again.

After a long cutscene, it's time to escape prison. Once you've taken out the guards, be sure to loot the Cell Key from one of them. You will not regain your inventory items until the start of the next Chapter. You have a choice whether to use stealth and just knock out the guards as you go, or to just kill everyone. If you saved Aryan, you'll help him take is revenge. If not, Louisa will help you out. When you do finally exit, if you took the Amulet from Newboy earlier, he'll help you now by distracting the guards. If not, loot his corpse for the Amulet of Melitele, and then get past the guards. Follow Triss on to Chapter I.
